Implant placement in the maxillary anterior region presents unique challenges due to the anatomical characteristics of the anterior maxilla and the buccal bone’s natural resorption pattern following tooth extraction. Partial Extraction Therapy (PET) - which includes root submergence, socket shield, and pontic shield techniques - offers a biologically driven approach to preserve buccal bone and maintain hard and soft tissue architecture.
This presentation will review the principles and clinical application of PET with a primary focus on the socket shield technique. Indications, contraindications, surgical protocols, potential complications, and alternatives to PET will be discussed. A series of clinical cases, ranging from single-unit restorations to full-arch applications, will illustrate the versatility and predictability of PET in enhancing esthetic and functional implant outcomes.
